Random Access Memory (RAM) latency is the time delay between your computer requesting data from its RAM and the RAM actually delivering that data. Think of it like waiting for a response after asking a question – the shorter the wait, the faster your computer feels. This delay is measured in nanoseconds (billionths of a second), and even tiny differences can significantly impact overall system performance. Factors influencing RAM latency include the RAM’s speed rating (measured in MHz), its type (DDR4, DDR5, etc.), and the motherboard’s memory controller. Faster RAM with lower latency generally translates to quicker application loading times, smoother multitasking, and improved responsiveness in games and other demanding applications.

Lower latency RAM is particularly crucial for tasks that involve frequent data access, such as gaming, video editing, and 3D rendering.
